Zooey Deschanel Is Bringing Christmas Spirit to Bath & Body Works With ‘Season of Wonder’

From Elf to holiday episodes of New Girl and two holiday records, Zooey Deschanel has become synonymous with Christmas cheer. Now, she’s bringing that festive nostalgia to Bath & Body Works’ Season of Wonder, a holiday campaign celebrating the scents and traditions of the season.

Season of Wonder is Bath & Body Works’ most ambitious campaign to date, combining classic holiday favorites with new soon-to-be favorites. Its sleek design ditches traditional red and green in favor of chic pastels that blend with any home’s wintry aesthetic.

Veronique Gabai-Pinsky, chief brand and product officer at Bath & Body Works, said the hope behind Season of Wonder is to evoke meaningful holiday feelings through the campaign.

“With Season of Wonder, we’re celebrating everything that makes this time of year special through fragrances that evoke memories, thoughtful gifts that create connections and new experiences that inspire discovery,” Gabai-Pinsky said.

For Deschanel, partnering with Bath & Body Works was a natural fit, having grown up “obsessed with” Christmas. A self-identified winter person, Deschanel said the Season of Wonder collection combines many of her favorite elements of the season – cozy scents, festive decor in frosted pastels and meaningful gifts to share.

“For me, holiday wonder is in the little things you look forward to every year: the scents, the lights and the feeling of finding a gift that is exactly right for someone,” Deschanel said. “I love the quality and care that go into the products, and Season of Wonder is about celebrating all those little things that make the holidays feel special.”

The Season of Wonder collection features returning favorites and new fragrances, including Snowflakes & Cashmere, with notes of vanilla cashmere cream, caramel woods and frosted clementine.

New to the lineup is Vanilla Cocoa Flurries, featuring notes of white cocoa, chilled coconut milk and vanilla woods, available across body care, home fragrance and hand soaps. Returning home fragrances include Pure Wonder, Moonlit Goddess, Fresh Balsam, Lavender & Pine and Winter.

Season of Wonder is available now at Bath & Body Works stores and on its website, while the fan-favorite scent Pink Suede is available exclusively at Ulta.

Deschanel sat down with Los Angeles magazine to discuss her favorite aspects of the campaign and the Season of Wonder collection.

This interview has been edited for clarity and length.

What does “Season of Wonder” mean to you?

“Season of Wonder,” to me, means your most ideal holiday – like, if you could imagine the best holiday season, making the most of the holiday season, and at the end of it, you go, “I did it, I lived it.” That, to me, is Season of Wonder.

You are known for some pretty iconic Christmas roles. How have these roles shaped your relationship with Christmas, and how does that channel into this collaboration?

I kind of think I’ve attracted this Christmas thing because I grew up obsessed with Christmas. I would start talking about Christmas in July. I couldn’t wait for Christmas all year round … I love Christmas. I love the holidays. I love Christmas carols. I just love it so much. To me, the coziness and the decor, everything. I love Christmas music. So I just think I’ve somehow attracted it, and I love it, and I’m so happy to be kind of associated with the season.

I have two Christmas records, I did a Christmas film that’s been coming back every year, which is great, and lots of Christmas episodes, and now I get to do this amazing collaboration. To me, it’s just, I guess, it’s a great honor and a joy because this is the most joyous season.

You grew up in L.A., where the holidays look a little different. What do you do in L.A. to ring in the festive season?

L.A. is very Christmasy – you’re not hindered by crazy weather, but it gets a little chillier, which is nice. You can still wear a jacket and enjoy the feeling of being cozy and drinking hot chocolate. It’s not like it’s hot on Christmas usually. It’s usually a little bit chilly, so we have kind of like I think all the nice things of Christmas without, you know, being held back by weather. So yeah, I love being in L.A. on Christmas.

You’re engaged to an interior designer, so you know the importance of home aesthetics. What about this collection screams Christmas aesthetic in your home?

I love it because I think it’s unique as far as holiday decor goes, because I love pastel as a holiday decor, and I feel like that, to me, it’s just kind of a unique take. It’s still, it’s very frosty, snowflake-like. I love frosted pastels. So, to me, what I love beyond loving the scents, I love the fact that you can kind of bring any of these to someone’s home as a beautiful gift. This is a really nice hostess gift, you know, and it looks pretty, and you can just have it out, and it feels like holiday, it looks like holiday, and it smells like holiday.

What Season of Wonder scent is most you?

I’ve been saying my favorite one is Moonlit Goddess. I could wear this any day of the year. But as far as holidays go, I’m loving this one, which is Marshmallow Snowfall. It smells like marshmallows and somehow snowfall. I don’t know how, but it creates a real Christmassy vibe.
